Out Patient Care Department
We offer both curative and preventive health care services including counselling, diagnostic and treatment services.
At the main outpatient department, an average of 80 patients per day receive care that includes doctor/clinician consultations, minor surgeries, diagnostic imaging and emergency services. The outpatients department is Open every Monday to Sunday, 7:00am to 9:00pm.

Maternity Services
This ward is headed by an Obstetrician/ Gynecologist who works hand in hand with a team of other doctors and midwives to deliver the much-needed care.
It has the biggest number of admissions in the hospital and offers some of the below services:

✓ Management of pregnancy complications
✓ Referrals
A total of 25,034 deliveries were conducted between the financial years 2010/2011 and 2019/2020. 69.5% of these deliveries were normal deliveries and 30.4% were by caesarean section. Kiwoko Hospital’s reputation in Maternal and Newborn Health Care has grown over the years which has led to an increase in the number of patients referred to the facility for care. Of the 3,968 maternity ward admissions that were recorded in 2019 (January to December), 20% were referrals from other health facilities.

Neo-Natal Intensive Care
The Ministry of Health, Uganda (MoH) recognizes Kiwoko Hospital’s NICU as a centre of excellence in newborn health. Health care workers from across the country travel to Kiwoko to learn from the NICU and its knowledgeable staff.
This unit has 38 beds with the commonest cause of admission to the unit being prematurity. Babies in this unit are as well treated for other conditions such as perinatal/birth asphyxia, sepsis, among others.
Today, this unit admits over 1200 babies every year with an over 90% survival rate.

PAEDIATRICS WARD
This ward admits male and female children below the age of 6 years.
On average, a total of 1300 children are admitted to this unit every year.
Some of the commonest reasons for admission being; malaria, malnutrition, anaemia, burns and fractures.

MALE WARD
All male patients above six (6) years are admitted to the hospital’s male ward.
This ward is divided into two; the surgical and medical sides. Some of the common causes of admission to this unit are trauma (boda-boda accidents), infections such as HIV and non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure.

Kiwoko hospital has two ambulances that support the timely referral of patients to other facilities for further management.
Community Based Health Care Program
Kiwoko Hospital has continued to serve its mission through its Community Based Health Care (CBHC) Program that was started in 1988 to prevent common diseases/conditions such as; diarrhea, malaria, polio, TB, whooping cough, measles, worms and malnutrition; and to promote health.
Health Outreaches
Kiwoko Hospital has continued to serve its mission through its Community Based Health Care (CBHC) Program that was started in 1988 to prevent common diseases/conditions such as; diarrhea, malaria, polio, TB, whooping cough, measles, worms and malnutrition; and to promote health.
Today, the CBHC Program focusses on immunization, antenatal care, postnatal care, adolescent health, mental health, family planning, nutrition education, water and sanitation hygiene promotion, HIV and general health education.
Immunization
Kiwoko hospital conducts immunization at community level (in addition to what is done at the facility) where children are immunized against diseases such as polio, tetanus, tuberculosis, measles, whooping cough and diphtheria.
In partnership with the Ugandan Ministry of Health, Kiwoko hospital also vaccinates 10-year old girls against cervical cancer. Community immunization happens every Monday to Friday at different sites within the area that we serve. Our VHTs (Village Health Teams) play a key role in mobilizing clients to attend these clinics.

Atenatal & Post Natal Clinic
We bring both antenatal and postnatal care services closer to women in the communities that we serve. During these community clinics, Kiwoko hospital provides services that include but are not limited to; TT vaccination, HIV testing, health education, general examination (anemia, blood pressure, weight, etc.).
After delivery, mothers are examined using the 666 technique and this examination is intended to find out if the new mother is recovering well.
Family Planning
Besides educating the community about the importance of family planning, Kiwoko hospital also provides pills and condoms to community members that attend its different family planning clinics.
In case one requests for a family planning method that requires theatre space such as tubal ligation, they are linked up with the team at the facility for care.
Community Health Education
In general, Kiwoko hospital is involved in educating the community about health issues related to; hygiene, sanitation, safe motherhood, HIV prevention, mental health and epilepsy, among others.
With the help of 120 VHTs, this very important information is passed down to the different households
